Why You Should Join a Walking Club (And How to Get Started with Method Wellness & PT!)

By: Brandi Solis

Looking for a simple, effective way to boost your physical and mental health—without fancy equipment? Joining a walking club might be exactly what you need.

At Method Wellness & PT, we’re launching a Walking Club beginning in August 2025 that meets on the first and third Saturdays of each month at 8:30 AM. We'll begin in Shavano Park walking trail at City Hall, but we'll also venture out to different parks and walking trails around San Antonio to keep things interesting and enjoyable.

Whether you're just getting started on your fitness journey or you're a seasoned step-counter, here are some great reasons to join us:

1. It’s a Simple, Low-Impact Way to Improve Health
Walking is one of the most underrated forms of exercise. It helps lower blood pressure, manage weight, improve circulation, and increase cardiovascular endurance. Even a 30-minute walk a few times a week can reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
Because walking is low-impact, it’s accessible to nearly everyone—even those recovering from injury or new to exercise. You don’t need to be an athlete to benefit, and there’s no pressure to keep up with a certain pace. Just move at a rhythm that works for your body.

2. Stay Motivated with a Community
We all start new habits with the best intentions—but let’s be real, motivation can fizzle out quickly when you’re on your own. A walking club offers built-in accountability and encouragement. Knowing others are showing up for the same purpose makes it easier to stick with your routine.
Plus, group walks are more fun! You’ll find yourself looking forward to each walk—not just for the physical movement, but for the uplifting energy of the group.

3. It’s a Great Way to Relieve Stress
There’s something therapeutic about moving your body in nature. Whether you're enjoying a quiet walk with headphones or having a lighthearted conversation with a walking buddy, each step can help ease anxiety and clear your mind.
Studies show that walking reduces levels of cortisol (the stress hormone), improves sleep, and boosts mood. Add some fresh air, birdsong, and sunshine, and you’ve got a natural remedy for the chaos of daily life.

4. Make New Friends & Strengthen Social Connections
Social connection is essential for mental and emotional health—and what better way to make new friends than while walking side by side, chatting about life, work, or the latest binge-worthy show?
Our walking club is open, friendly, and welcoming to all. Whether you come alone or bring a friend, you’ll leave each walk feeling more connected and supported. Over time, these shared experiences can grow into meaningful relationships.

5. Explore New Areas
San Antonio is full of beautiful parks, greenways, and hidden gems you may not have discovered yet. While our home base is Shavano Park, our club will also take strolls through other scenic spots to keep things exciting and explore the natural beauty of our city.
Each location will offer a new perspective, a different atmosphere, and sometimes even a new challenge. It’s a refreshing way to break out of your routine and reconnect with the outdoors.
